Yarmouth is a growing town experiencing heavy use of its coastal access, parks, trails, and walking and biking paths. The Yarmouth Open Space Task Force hired North Star Planning to create a plan in coordination with Town departments, the Royal River Conservation Trust, and local volunteers. Recommendations focused on three town goals: maintain and enhance town-owned properties; prioritize new acquisitions of valued open space; and update town ordinances and policies to include an open space acquisition policy and protect park and conservation lands in perpetuity. The Plan also recommends regional coordination to add value to Yarmouth’s parks and open spaces through partnerships with nonprofits and neighboring communities, which would take pressure off Yarmouth’s municipal staff and budget while adding a network of regional open space assets.
